The aim of the project CoVaForm is a reduction of valuable materials (bainitic grade steel, titanium) and energy consumption for SMEs in the European forging industry. A possibility for a higher material utilization is cross wedge rolling (CWR), which is a flashless forming operation. Using CWR the material utilization shall be improved for two model products (hip implant and heavy duty common rail) made of titanium and stainless steel.

The CoVaForm project is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union. Four SMEs and three research institutes originating in five countries participate in the cooperative research project.
